DOT Should Be Grateful for the Internet

In the first week of January, the Department of Tourism launched its new campaign slogan “Its more fun in the Philippines” months after the old slogan “Pilipinas kay Ganda” was badly criticized by the Filipino people including the president.
Just hours after the DOT launched the campaign, it quickly became the #1 trending topic on twitter with the hashtag #itsmoreinthephilippines

How did the internet made the campaign work worldwide?

The internet did a pretty outstanding job boosting the popularity of the campaign. Its more fun in the Philippines isn’t just a catchy campaign slogan, now it’s also an internet meme.
Filipino 9gaggers, redditors and a bunch of other internet geeks made their own its more fun in the Philippines promotions by putting a photograph of something that Filipinos do  that seems peculiar to some other countries and making it related to the western pop culture.
Stuff like these:

Tourism Secretary Ramon Jimenez Jr. said that they "want the world not to watch but to participate" in the new campaign.
The people with knowledge in photoshop and pop culture and also have internet connection did their own renditions and voila, its worldwide famous.
The Its more fun in the Philippines facebook page has now a fanbase of over 37,000 likes.

The Switzerland Incident

The Philippine Star published an article about the swiss tourism campaign from 1951 that has a slogan that says "Its more fun in Switzerland"
Just when the Filipinos thought the campaign slogan will do a pretty good job for the country, it quickly got a lot of Criticisms and negative reports about how the DOT made another mistake on launching a used vintage swiss slogan.
DOT Secretary quickly responded to this issue:
“The line isn’t a manufactured slogan. It is simply the truth about our country. Don’t be swayed by people who are trying to punch holes in it… No one can own the expression ‘it’s more fun’ but it’s very true for the Philippines so it becomes ours.”
Before the overwhelming negative reviews of Pilipinas Kay Ganda there was “Wow! Philippines” which did pretty well and even has a videoke machine. How cool is that.

Dratini Fanrong: The Water Dragon

The Chinese New Year happened days ago was such a success; From the Kapamilya's ASAP Chinese-inspired stage performances, upto the most-awaited fireworks display at the Quirino Grand Stand in Luneta.

In Binondo, dragon dances are everywhere! There are red dragons, white and blue, and rainbow-colored ones; baby dragons and mommy dragons. These dragon dances make noise along Chinatown. Yes, noises that aren't noise polluting the air actually. Dong-dong-dong!!!

Lucky charms and crystals were populated by people; the shops carrying these items were literally filled with customers that in order for you to be entertained, you have to queue a 15-people line. Maybe it will take you 20mins to talk to shop owner. Not only these shops are filled with customers, but also those alongside.

Yeah, literally dragons are everywhere.

NO dead streets those times... all were alive. all were happy. all were busy. You cannot just lay your feet there and shoot. You should move else you will be forced to be moved by those ultra alive people.:)

As feng shui said, Roosters are lucky this year; but are chicks lucky too? Yes, maybe.:)

But despite of all, we still have these... Sad.

Known personalities went there.

Fruits and MEDICENEs. Children sell themselves. :)

Tongue Like Dagger. They Got Tongues Like Dagger. Oh-oh-oh-oh... What's Sulit, Mommy?

After all, in a country where the poor gets poorer by the day, people’s sense of history flies out of the window when hunger comes knocking on the door.

                                                                                                 -  Erwin Tulfo

This too shall pass.

With the passing of Chief Justice Renato Corona impeachment trial days comes stories and figures. Filipinos can only hope that when all these come to halt, truth and justice will be served. In few weeks or months this will become history. Until then we as citizens may participate so we may have collective sense of history. Understand what seems to be a Filipino painful pattern of it. Or just focus our energy to the daily grind so Hunger won’t come knocking on the door. We decide. Or don’t decide. We still decide.

For the meantime, while the 23 senator-judges, the leading man, the media, the haves, the have-nots, and the extras are peering through the forest of information and hearing through the thunders of complaints, agony and whimpers Turning Point dig and did few turnings.

What Is “Sulit”, Mommy? Errrr, I mean, What Is Impeachment in the Philippines, Wiki?

It is an expressed power of the Congress in the Philippines to formally charge a serving government official with an impeachable offense. After being impeached by the House of Representatives, the official is then tried in the Senate. If convicted, the official is either removed from office or censured.

Impeachment followed by conviction is often the only way to forcibly remove a sitting official. While "impeachment" is often used to refer to the entire process of removing an official from office, it only formally refers to the indictment stage in the House of Representatives, not the trial stage in the Senate. Under the current Constitution, an official can be impeached if one third of the House of Representatives votes in favor. Since it takes only a simple majority to set the agenda or to adjourn the House, it can be difficult for a minority of one third to bring a vote and impeach an official.

Who Are the Impeaching officials?

  1. Any citizen with an endorsement of a member of the House of Representative may file charges.
  2. The House Committee on Justice will decide by majority vote if the complaint has substance.
  3. The House Committee on Justice will decide by majority vote if the complaint is sufficient in form.
  4. The House Committee on Justice will decide by majority vote if the complaint is sufficient in grounds.
  5. The House Committee on Justice will decide by majority vote if there is probable cause in the complaint.
  6. The House of Representatives will vote to impeach the official. A one-third vote is needed.
    • If the vote passes, the complaint will become the "Articles of Impeachment" and the House will appoint prosecutors who may or may not be members of the House.
    • If the vote fails in any part of the procedure, the official accused can't be filed for impeachment for one calendar year.
  7. The Senate will then try the impeached official. Conviction requires a two-thirds vote.
  8. If convicted, there are two punishments the Senate can mete out:
    • Censure or a reprimand, or
    • Removal from office and prohibition to hold any governmental office

In the 1935 constitution, a two-thirds vote was needed to impeach an official by the House
of  Representatives, while a three-fourths vote in the Senate was required to convict.

Ahm. So… For A Coronavela, Who Among ‘Em Got the Tongue Like Dagger?

Hello 2012!

Feng shui, and other forms of predictions are scattering the metro today. Let's take sneak!

The Mayan Calendar:
Many are scared, some are snob. Once Mayan Calendar is heard, first instict we think (or maybe some of us) is the end of the world -- It is because in the Mayan Calendar, the last day before the world ends is on December 21, 2012, or when expressed in numerology: 12-21-12. We can see a pattern here - the inverstion of numbers. Some prophesies think that this really the end.

But aside from the Mayan Calendar, there are documentaries that explains how the world will end. This is the Planet X or the Nibiru. Below is the file video from youtube. It is so long. You can always check other videos related to this.

The Country:

The ANC interviewed astrologers to give their predictions this 2012. They tackled Philippines' government, the natural disasters the country is facing, and the talked-about "end of the world".

Fashion, wood business, real estates will boom this year. Food businesses, be careful.

The Gadgets:

Hello big brother! This year, alphanumerics will be replaced by his big brother touchies and his cousins qwerty's. Though there will still be available units with alphaumeric keys, but these will be expected to be "basic phones" today.

Digital cameras continue to grow this year. Unlike the past years, cameras are not so hippy, but because of the exposure of digital compact cameras, many trigger happy moments are preserved.

Nikon and Canon still battle for the O' mighty throne! But beware fanboys, Sony is making up his way. Four-thirds cameras still proving itself to be best of both worlds -- having that sleek body with interchangeable lenses. These 4-3rds are mirrorless, seems like this will hit the market soon for amateurs and photography hobbyists. Sony released its Mirrorless cameras - NEX and α., and Nikon responded with its V1.
